FNA (vol. 7, 2010) elevates Salix brachycarpa ssp. niphoclada (= S. niphoclada) to full species and includes S. brachycarpa ssp. brachycarpa in S. brachycarpa var. brachycarpa, while Kartesz (1994) here treats them as distinct.
